Supporting Treatment for Prostate Cancer: How Homeopathy can help in Integrative Care

In a homeopathic practice, there are moments when the meaningful work happens not in opposition to conventional medicine, but alongside it. Recently I have been privileged to work in this way —supporting a patient undergoing radiotherapy for prostate cancer with carefully selected homeopathic prescribing, aimed at improving resilience, reducing side effects, and maintaining overall wellbeing. I wanted to share this story.

A man in his late sixties came to see me, diagnosed with localised prostate cancer. His prognosis was good, though his diagnosis was complex—two types of cancer were identified, one hormone receptive and one not. The proposed treatment plan was three months of hormone therapy followed by a course of radiotherapy.

From the outset, his primary concern was not the diagnosis itself, but how the treatment would affect him. He spoke about a deep uncertainty—how his body would respond, whether he would cope, and what the process might take from him. Alongside this was a more personal layer: a sense of loss. Loss of role, of status, of being able to work and function in the way he always had. This emotional landscape became central to the prescribing.

Beginning with the Individual

We started, as I usually do, with a constitutional approach. The picture that emerged—responsibility, pressure, a strong identity tied to work and purpose, alongside a profound sensitivity to loss of position—led to the prescription of Aurum metallicum.

This initial phase was not only about the remedy. It was also about creating a space where he could talk openly about what was happening to him. He later reflected that this in itself was deeply supportive—having somewhere to process the emotional impact of treatment alongside the physical.

Before the treatment

As treatment approached, the focus shifted to supporting his system more broadly. In anticipation of the physiological strain of hormone therapy and radiotherapy, I introduced organ support—particularly for the liver—using a combination of remedies alongside Veratrum album.

This phase aimed to strengthen his overall resilience and support detoxification pathways, helping his body prepare for what can be, for many people, a demanding course of treatment.

The hormone therapy began and was, overall, well tolerated. We continued to work together both on a remedy level and through regular consultations, supporting not only his physical state but also his emotional processing as things unfolded.

Supporting Through Radiotherapy

When radiotherapy commenced, the approach became more structured. I used a protocol of remedies commonly employed to support patients undergoing radiation treatment, including Radium bromatum, Sol, and Belladonna, taken on treatment days.

This phase of care was more prescriptive, designed to address the known effects of radiotherapy on tissues and energy levels, while continuing to observe and respond to his individual experience.

The outcome was striking. Throughout the course of radiotherapy, he remained remarkably well. Side effects were minimal and manageable, and his energy and overall state held steady. In fact, his medical team commented on how well he was coping, noting that his response to treatment was unusually smooth. They asked what he was doing differently—and he shared that he was receiving homeopathic support alongside his care.

Continuing Support Beyond Treatment

We continued with both remedy support and liver support throughout the radiotherapy and for several weeks afterwards, recognising that the effects of radiation can persist in the body beyond the final session.

This continuation phase is often just as important—supporting recovery, integration, and a return to good health.

The next phase

A few weeks ago, I received an email from him. His final tests showed that his prostate levels were completely normal. He described himself as feeling fit, well, and ready to return to life.

Thoughts on the place of Homeopathy in Integrative cancer Care

What this case highlights so clearly is the role that homeopathy can play alongside conventional cancer treatment.

It is not simply about remedies—though these can be powerful when well selected. It is also about the therapeutic relationship, the space to be heard, and the opportunity to support the whole person through what can be an intense and uncertain experience.

Whether someone is undergoing hormone therapy, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy, a person may need

  • Emotional support and processing

  • Support for the body’s resilience and recovery

  • A sense of being actively cared for as an individual

Homeopathy can offer this in a gentle, adaptable, and deeply individualised way.

A Gentle Companion Through Treatment

For anyone approaching cancer treatment, this case offers a simple message: there is lots of support out there and homeopathy has in place in your journey.

It is always a great privilige to be part of someones healing, so if you would like to know more about how homeopathy can help and support you, please do get in touch.

Homeopathy was used here as a complementary approach and did not replace conventional medical treatment. Anyone undergoing cancer care should remain under the guidance of their oncology team.
